Testing Protocols for Battery Performance and Reliability

Using standardized testing protocols, this study investigates the performance and reliability through battery testing of various types of batteries, including lithium ion (Li-ion), lead acid and nickel metal hydride (NiMH). This was to evaluate how well their capacity retention, energy efficiency, and durability compared on real world bases, specifically where temperature fluctuations, and high rates of charge and discharge are involved. Lifetime and reliability results indicate that Li-ion batteries performed much better than NiMH and lead-acid batteries in all types, but were also sensitive to environmental stressors. The importance of more efficient testing protocols for obtaining more meaningful simulations of real world usage is underscored by the study and a broadly implemented advanced predictive models to predictions are proposed in order to increase the quality of performance forecasts.
